My girlfriend\u2019s family and I spent a good chunk of last weekend cleaning out our closets to donate to the Coalition on Temporary Shelter (COTS) <\/a>in Detroit, Michigan.<\/p>\n

Is it too big? \u00a0Too small to zip up? \u00a0When was the last time I wore this?<\/em><\/p>\n

These were just a few of the questions that rolled off our tongues when we were rummaging through our possesions.<\/p>\n

During the process, I came up with these helpful tips on how to stop yourself from becoming a Kardashian<\/a> and start living with less.<\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t wore it in a year, donate it!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Feel free to part with fads — they might be part of last year\u2019s collection, but they could make someone else feel brand new!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Business clothes lead to business jobs! \u00a0Donate professional clothing, suits and quality shoes for those looking for work or going back to work.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If it looks good on you, just think of how great it could look on someone else!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Accessorize! \u00a0Don\u2019t forget to donate belts, jewelry, purses, and winter gear like gloves and hats. \u00a0How many scarves can one person really wear??<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manage your closet with quarterly donations!\u00a0 Michigan is nice enough to provide us with four seasons. \u00a0Make use of them by slimming down your wardrobe each time we enter a new time of year!<\/strong><\/p>\n

*Founded in 1982, Coalition On Temporary Shelter (COTS) is a private, non-profit organization that provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, as well as comprehensive support services for the homeless and at-risk population. COTS\u2019 mission is to alleviate homelessness by providing an array of services which enable people to achieve self-sufficiency and obtain quality affordable housing. COTS provides more than 40,000 nights of emergency shelter for more than 2,000 men women and children annually.
