{"id":12279,"date":"2013-03-19T13:04:16","date_gmt":"2013-03-19T13:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/blog\/isaacgilman\/?p=107"},"modified":"2013-03-19T13:04:16","modified_gmt":"2013-03-19T13:04:16","slug":"giving-back-to-those-that-gave-me-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/challengedetroit.builtrare.com\/blog\/giving-back-to-those-that-gave-me-opportunity\/","title":{"rendered":"Giving Back to Those that Offered Me Opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Giving is one of my favorite parts about the Challenge Detroit program.\u00a0 Not only does Challenge Detroit help us find volunteer opportunities, but as I noted, my company, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billhighway.co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Billhighway<\/a>, also shares this value.\u00a0 So I tend to give back to the community quite a bit.\u00a0 Even beyond that, I regularly volunteer for a wonderful nonprofit organization in Southwest Detroit called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unidetroit.org\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Urban Neighborhood Initiatives<\/a>(UNI).\u00a0 About two years ago, I was placed at UNI as a summer AmeriCorps Volunteer.\u00a0 At that time I was tasked with coordinating a small and purely volunteer run bike club.\u00a0 The overall goal of my time was to take the program and strengthen it, with the possibility of building the program out into a youth run and youth training bike retail shop.\u00a0 I am extremely excited to say that this long term goal is in the process of coming to fruition.
