Why I love living in Detroit <\/big><\/big>(10 really great reasons)<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. I can genuinely say that my city hustles harder than yours.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

2. Eastern Market<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>It’s the best<\/em> farmers market in America. Hands down. The market has \u00a05 large sheds and is surrounded by awesome local shops like Russell Street Deli<\/a> (the best breakfast diner), Supino’s<\/a> (the best pizza),\u00a0R. Hirt Jr. & Co.<\/a> (the best cheeses),\u00a0Germack\u00a0Pistachio\u00a0Company<\/a> (the best snacks), Antiques, El Guapo Food Truck (the best food truck). It’s just the best.<\/p>\n

3. Our Mayor is a baller.<\/strong> No really,\u00a0Mayor Bing was a\u00a0<\/strong>7 time all start basketball player. A true baller. Plus, he really cares<\/em> about the city.<\/p>\n

4. The architecture<\/strong>. \u00a0Homes and buildings in Detroit – the old, the dilapidated, the newly renovated- are beautiful. Palmer Woods<\/a>, Fisher Building<\/a>,\u00a0Guardian Building<\/a>,\u00a0 Detroit Central Station<\/a>\u00a0just to name a few. Even more, there’s all the creative, newly renovated buildings, such as the old church transformed into a bar (Patron Saint of Whiskey, as they say) St. Cece’s Pub<\/a> in Corktown and downtown The Westin Book Cadillac<\/a>\u00a0home of Michael Symon’s\u00a0restaurant\u00a0Roast<\/a>\u00a0(yum!).<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0The people.<\/strong>\u00a0I love hearing people’s stories of why they moved here, why they stayed, and why they came back. It’s not your usual run of the mill story. There is a drive that brings people here. Not to mention all the celebs that have sprouted out of Detroit: Arethra Franklin, Jack White, Madonna, Mitch Albom, Tim Allen, Eminem, and so on…<\/p>\n

6. My<\/strong> (poor) driving skills fit right in<\/strong>. (Let’s be honest, Detroiters aren’t the best at driving. Traffic laws are optional… for the most part.)<\/p>\n

7. Public\u00a0art.<\/strong>\u00a0All mediums- paint, sculputure,\u00a0graffiti- create an engaging and exciting perspective. Check out the web app\u00a0Artown<\/a>\u00a0to see where you can find all types of art around the city.<\/p>\n

8. I never have to walk alone<\/strong>\u2026 no one would allow\u00a0me to do that.<\/p>\n

9. The history<\/strong>. I learn something new about Detroit every day. The culture and history of Detroit is rich and deep. There is no one that can argue that Detroit wasn’t\u00a0influential\u00a0in shaping history, and let me tell you, there is so much more to come. Plus, the music. First, there was Motown, then there came electronic dance music. Many thanks to\u00a0Detroit for the creatives who began it all.<\/p>\n

10. Making a difference<\/strong>. It was once told to me that “Detroit<\/em>\u00a0is<\/em>\u00a0small enough<\/em>\u00a0where<\/em>\u00a0you matter<\/em>,\u00a0but big enough<\/em>\u00a0where it matters to the\u00a0world.<\/em>” I couldn’t agree more. We are in the middle of a reveloution. Even Madonna (born & raised in metro Detroit) could feel it. At her recent concert in November, she emphatically yelled to the crowd, “Detroit is having a come-back. I can feel it.”<\/div>\n
