{"id":12742,"date":"2012-12-13T22:13:49","date_gmt":"2012-12-13T22:13:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/blog\/vadimavshalumov\/?p=28"},"modified":"2012-12-13T22:13:49","modified_gmt":"2012-12-13T22:13:49","slug":"a-sticker-for-your-thoughts-on-public-spaces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/challengedetroit.builtrare.com\/blog\/a-sticker-for-your-thoughts-on-public-spaces\/","title":{"rendered":"A Sticker for Your Thoughts (on Public Spaces)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A couple Sundays ago I worked a booth at Campus Martius (Downtown Detroit) for\u00a0<a title=\"d:hive\" href=\"http:\/\/dhivedetroit.org\/engage\/placemaking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">D: Hive<\/a>, which is leading an effort to get community input on how to fix up downtown public spaces.\u00a0 The morning got off to an inauspicious start.\u00a0 It was raining, it was cold, and I was cranky that I had to get up on a Sunday morning.\u00a0 To make matters worse, the stapler gun, which I needed to put up maps and posters, was busted!\u00a0 As the rain cleared, however, my mood improved and people started coming out in large quantities (Quicken Loans had a big event for its employees so lots of people were around).\u00a0 Many attendees were apprehensive, even peeved about my asking them for their input.\u00a0 Others appreciated that someone cared enough to hear their opinions.\u00a0 Others still \u2013 mainly children \u2013 were thrilled to put shiny stickers on the walls.
