Before moving to Detroit, I had been around the Detroit area many times but had only been downtown on a few occasions. I knew that I wanted to see more of the city and keep up with events going on but, frankly, didn’t know where to start. A Google search for any city recommendations comes up with large museums and whoever can pay for advertising – not necessarily who locals would suggest.<\/p>\n

Whether you’re new to the city (welcome!), visiting, or a long-time Detroiter looking for new recommendations, here are five accounts to help you start exploring the city:<\/p>\n

@PureDetroit313<\/a>:\u00a0<\/strong>The Detroit shop posts about it’s new merchandise but also shares snaps of the city’s famous architecture and info about their tours of spaces like the Packard Plant.<\/p>\n

@ChowDownDetroit:<\/a> <\/strong>This foodie account posts mouthwatering dishes from Detroit’s (and the surrounding area’s) best small, affordable restaurants. Heads up, none of it is healthy and all of it looks delicious.<\/p>\n

@LetsDet:<\/a> <\/strong>Let’s Detroit posts about things to do, places to see and people to meet around the city. Bonus: It’s run by a Year 7 Challenge Detroit fellow.<\/p>\n

@WoodwardThrowbacks:<\/a> <\/strong>Woodward Throwbacks is a salvaged woodworking shop that posts their current work along with some of the most beautiful homes in the city, a reminder that Detroit’s gorgeous architecture spans outside of the downtown area.<\/p>\n
