I have been going to the downtown events for a few years now and each year it just seems to get bigger and better as the word of mouth spreads about the amazing experiences that happen in Detroit. Below are a list of some of the top holiday events that happen EVERY YEAR and FOR FREE in Downtown Detroit that you will not want to miss!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wxyz.com\/dpp\/entertainment\/around_town\/campus-martius-wxyz-2013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cLight up the Season\u201d &#8211; DTE Tree Lighting<\/a>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_51\" style=\"width: 874px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/corissaleveille\/files\/2013\/12\/2013.treelighting.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51\" class=\" wp-image-51\" alt=\"2013.treelighting\" src=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/corissaleveille\/files\/2013\/12\/2013.treelighting.jpg\" width=\"864\" height=\"487\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-51\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2013 Tree Lighting<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Each year the tree and the festivities just keep getting bigger! The 10th Annual Tree lighting, not only lit up a tree with over 19,000 LED lights, but there was also a fantastic 5-minute light show for the estimated 20,000 people in attendance. In addition to the light show, there is also tons of \u00a0great local food trucks and vendors, a ice skating performance [follow by open skating!], a holiday market, horse carriage rides and so much more!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.menorahinthed.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Menorah in the D<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_54\" style=\"width: 624px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/corissaleveille\/files\/2013\/12\/Menorah.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-54\" class=\"size-full wp-image-54\" alt=\"Menorah\" src=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/corissaleveille\/files\/2013\/12\/Menorah.png\" width=\"614\" height=\"287\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-54\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Menorah in the D &#8211; photo credit: Eric Seals [Detroit Free Press]<\/p><\/div>Detroit welcomes all religions! In its short history it has gone from a few hundred to an anticipated 15,000 attendees. \u00a0This year, they are amping up this event with the typical downtown staples of food trucks and music, PLUS a 6:30pm drop for families who don&#8217;t want to stay up until midnight. This event has become a staple for my New Year\u2019s traditions and I cannot wait to spend this year with my fellow fellows watching the newly designed \u201cD\u201d drop!\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So if you ever need something to do around the holiday seasons, make sure to check out what is going on in the D.
