This is most true in Detroit, where the melodies of a song can foster ideas and emotion. Yesterday, I attended the first cultural event of our season with our partners at <a href=\"http:\/\/dp2a.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Detroit Passport to the Arts<\/a> (DP2A): Structurally Sound was a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.detroitchamberwinds.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Detroit Chamber Winds &amp; Strings<\/a> Concert at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recyclehere.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Recycle Here!<\/a> The location itself is the plant in which Henry Leland first built Lincoln automobiles; today it\u2019s Detroit\u2019s recycling hub.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/recycleblog4.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-702\" alt=\"recycleblog4\" src=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/recycleblog4.jpg\" width=\"560\" height=\"197\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was cool to see the space re-purposed into such a unique venue<a href=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/recycleblog3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-710\" alt=\"recycleblog3\" src=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/recycleblog3-300x199.jpg\" width=\"189\" height=\"125\" \/><\/a> &amp; recycling space after decades of vacancy. Just as the space had been re-purposed and re-imagined, the music was too. The imagination of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dso.org\/page.aspx?page_id=381\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marcus Schoon<\/a>, a 20+ year musician of the DSO, retrofitted old standards and classical masterworks into contemporary jazz.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/recycleblog2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-715\" alt=\"recycleblog2\" src=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/recycleblog2-300x225.jpg\" width=\"180\" height=\"135\" \/><\/a>The concert engaged all the senses as attendees gazed at vivid works of art that covered the space\u2019s interior framework. This recycling center is unlike any other. The 30-foot walls serve as enormous canvases suited for artistic expression. Outside, numerous three-dimensional sculptures and murals create the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Lincoln-Street-Art-Park\/179542518761761\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lincoln Street Art Park<\/a>. Even the street canvased an artistic presence. In fact, one of the murals in the train overpass was created with the help of Challenge Detroit Program Director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.challengedetroit.org\/staff-shelley-danner.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shelley Danner<\/a> during a Van Dusen workshop with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.challengedetroit.org\/staff-shelley-danner.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Little Things Labs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The event was an engaging experience to explore art <a href=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/recycleblog5.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-717\" alt=\"recycleblog5\" src=\"http:\/\/challengedetroit.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/recycleblog5-300x177.jpg\" width=\"243\" height=\"143\" \/><\/a>and music. Listening to contemporary jazz inside of what was once an auto-assembly plant is something I would never have considered a possibility just a few months ago. I guess anything is possible in Detroit; you are only limited by your imagination.
